APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An individual who allegedly shot at police at an Appleton bar died when an officer returned fire.
Around 1:33 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to the Maritime Bar on W. Wisconsin Avenue for a report of shots fired inside the bar.
Officials say when they arrived, they were confronted by an armed individual who shot at law enforcement.
An Appleton police officer discharged their firearm, striking the individual.
Life saving measures were performed and the person was taken to the hospital where they were pronounced deceased.
A firearm was recovered at the scene.
Law enforcement was not injured in the incident.
The involved officer who discharged their weapon has been placed on administrative leave, per department policy. The involved officer was wearing a body camera during the incident.
Eyewitnesses say there was some sort of altercation in the bar.
The investigation has been turned over to DCI.
