CARROLLTON, TX (WTAQ-WLUK) — A Texas police department is honoring an officer with Northeast Wisconsin ties who was killed in the line of duty.
Officer Steve Nothem worked for Grand Chute police before leaving for Carrollton, Texas, in 2020.
Last October, Nothem was hit and killed by a passing driver while assisting a DWI stop along a highway in Carrollton, Texas, just north of Dallas.
This week, Carrollton police created an “honor chair” in Nothem’s memory.
According to the police department:
The Honor Chair allows agencies of the fallen to “save their place” amongst their brothers and sisters. This allows for a permanent place of reverence.
The purpose of the Honor Chair is to remind fellow officers that even though their loved one is not there physically, the Officer will always be with them spiritually as they head out the door.
