ALLOUEZ, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A trip to Heritage Hill State Historical Park takes you back in time visually, but soon a new audio element will be enriching the experience.
The Fort Howard Guard Fife and Drum Corps has been practicing for the past four months and will make its debut on Memorial Day.
It currently has 16 members but the goal over time is to get to between 40 and 50 members.

The goal is to replicate what you’d hear if you were at the U.S. Army fort in the 1830s.
“That music was integral to daily life, daily military life, so we felt that was an essential element,” said Michael Telzrow, Heritage Hill executive director. “We also felt that it gave us the opportunity to introduce a bit of cultural history to younger people, so they could sort of discover their cultural patrimony from a musical standpoint.”
Heritage Hill is still recruiting people ages 10 to 22 to join the corps. Musical experience or knowledge is not required, according to Heritage Hill’s website. The positions are paid.
The hope is the group will eventually play parades, concerts, and other events.
