STURGEON BAY, WI (WLUK) — The Door County Sheriff’s Office says one person is dead after a single vehicle crash Friday afternoon.
Authorities say the victim is a 32-year-old Mexican national who was working in the area. His name isn’t being released pending family notification.
The sheriff’s department says it was notified at 3:46 p.m. of the crash on Mill Road between Old Elm Rd and West Center Rd. Four minutes later, the first deputy to arrive on scene found the vehicle rolled over in a field with the victim lying in the ditch unresponsive.
Life-saving measures were attempted at the scene and the victim was pronounced dead at the Door County Medical Center.
An initial investigation indicates the 2002 Nissan Exterra sport utility vehicle was traveling north on Mill Road when it veered onto the east shoulder, then crossed over the southbound lane and struck the west shoulder. After, the vehicle over-corrected, crossing both lanes and entered the east ditch where it rolled multiple times, ejecting the driver, according to the sheriff’s dept.
No one else was involved with the crash.
The incident remains under investigation.
