FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Fond du Lac Police Department arrested a driver after leading police on a chase while they were trying to stop him for a series of hit and runs.
Authorities say Friday at about 9 pm, they were called about a black SUV that rammed into a vehicle in a parking lot in the 1100 block of East Johnson Street and left the scene.
Police say three minutes after the initial call, the black SUV drove was driving at a high rate of speed westbound on Scott Street. Another caller then reported the SUV backed into a vehicle at the intersection of West Scott Street and Lakeshore Drive and drove away.
After that hit and run, police say the SUV struck a parked vehicle causing it to be pushed into a structure in the 300 block of Doty Street.
Moments later, police say they located the SUV and tried to perform a traffic stop. However, when the SUV pulled over and police made contact, authorities say the driver took off and drove through city streets at about 50 miles per hour.
Police say when they chased after the SUV, it struck a squad car at the intersection of South Park Avenue and East Second Street.
Authorities say a high-risk traffic stop was made and at that point a 57-year-old man was arrested and taken into custody.
Police say the man was arrested for reckless driving, knowingly fleeing officers, threats to a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer, operating a vehicle while intoxicated second offense, and felony bail jumping.
No further details are being released as the investigation is ongoing, according to the Fond du Lac Police Department.
