APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) — The 31st annual Fox Cities Marathon is underway this weekend and it’s expected to bring thousands into the Fox Valley from all over the country.
“We’re looking at welcoming more than 3,500 participants over the course of the weekend, from our Friday to our Sunday night events,” said Amanda Secor, a race coordinator with the marathon.
She says it’s expected to be the biggest since the pandemic.
“It’s great to see,” Secor told WTAQ. “It’s been a tough couple of years.
Visitors are coming in from all over the place.
“We’ve got 26 different states represented, and we also have some people coming in from Canada,” said Secor. “We’re international this year.”
The event is an economic boon to the area, with those visitors staying at local hotels and eating at local restaurants.
Friday is the Guardian Kids Fun Run and Huggies Diaper Dash and Toddler Trot. That starts at 4 at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The 5k and 10k run/walks will take place Saturday at 9 A.M. at Riverside Park. The half and full marathons will take place Sunday, leaving from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh – Fox Cities Campus in Menasha.
