KEWAUNEE COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Kewaunee County Board voted Tuesday night to approve construction of a new jail.
The facility will cost $25.6 million.
The board also approved a $21 million bond to pay for the jail’s construction.
The current Kewaunee County Jail has a capacity of 22 inmates but has been averaging 33 inmates per day.
The current facility also has structural issues with the building, plumbing, electrical systems and roof.
The new facility will have 52 beds, and can be expanded in the future if needed.
