GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Despite the rain on Thursday morning, dry conditions are expected to persist in the area overall.
Since the first of the year area rainfall is about six inches under the norm, and for June, we’re about two inches below normal.
Meterologist Mike Cellity with the National Weather Service says the recent weather didn’t put much of a dent in that deficit.
“Not in the short term no,” said Cellity. “I mean it will alleviate things somewhat, but in the long term we are still running over 5 inches below normal for the year to date.”
Around three quarters of an inch of rain fell in Green Bay on Thursday morning.
More rain is expected this weekend, but Cellity says that still won’t make up for the deficit.
It’s meant a headache for farmers, and could become one for those hoping to set off fireworks on the 4th of July.
“If it remains really dry, we could see some some restrictions in place,” said Cellity. “But that remains to be seen.”
As of last update, most of the state is still in moderate drought conditions.
