GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A jury convicted Jared Williquette Monday for the murder of a teenager during a drug deal, but on a less-serious count than what he was charged with.
Federico Abarca, 18, was shot and killed on Feb. 22, 2019. Williquette, Colton Kehoe, Jarid Stevens and Gavin Rock were charged with being party to first-degree reckless homicide.
Williquette’s trial started a week ago, and continued into Monday night. The jury convicted Williquette of second-degree reckless homicide and armed robbery, while acquitting him of obstruction, a court official said.
Sentencing is scheduled for July 12. The lesser homicide offense drops the maximum sentence on that count from 60 years in prison to 25. The maximum sentence on the armed robbery would be 40 years.
Before trial, he pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor bail jumping charge.
Green Bay police said Rock set up a drug deal with Abarca on Snapchat. The four went to Abarca’s apartment planning to steal five vaping cartridges that contained THC, the active ingredient in marijuana. A dispute occurred, and Abarca was killed.
Kehoe was previously sentenced to 18 years in prison.
Rock and Stevens had been scheduled enter pleas and be convicted in February, but the hearings were postponed, as their attorneys want to wait and see how Williquette’s trial turns out. Both men return to court May 17th.
