GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Joan Zavaleta was convicted Monday for his role in a July 2019 drive-by shooting.
Zavaleta, 18, pleaded no contest to attempted first-degree intentional homicide. Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 7.
Two others were also charged in the incident. Angel Vazquez, 18, will be sentenced Nov. 12 on a count of recklessly endangering safety. Alejandro Hernandez, 18, will be sentenced Dec. 7, also on a count of recklessly endangering safety.
The three were arrested on the Mason Street Bridge following the shooting near the intersection of Biemeret and 14th streets. Police said 10-15 shots were fired in the incident. The suspects were found because one of the people in the area shot their vehicle with a paintball, which allowed officers to find the vehicle. No one was hurt in the shooting.
The mother of the boy who shot the paintball told FOX 11 the shooting stemmed from a fight over a 17-year-old girl.
