TWO RIVERS (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Two Rivers city manager was arrested over the weekend, police confirm.
Just after 2 p.m. Sunday, officers were dispatched to a residence in Manitowoc for a report of a family trouble call.
As a result, Kyle Kordell was arrested for disorderly conduct/domestic violence and battery/domestic violence, police say.
Kordell was taken to the Manitowoc County Jail. He later posted bond and was released from jail. However, on Monday just after 3 p.m. the Manitowoc police department was sent to a Manitowoc residence on a report that Kordell violated a domestic abuse 72-hour contact prohibition. He was then arrested for violation of a domestic abuse contact prohibition and misdemeanor bail jumping.
Two Rivers City Council has unanimously accepted Kordell’s resignation.
Ben Meinert, chief of the Two Rivers police department, will continue serving as city manager as they seek an interim city manager.
After a closed session during the Nov. 2 council meeting, council members reconvened publicly and issued the following message:
The last several weeks have been challenging for the city of Two Rivers, its employees and the community. We understand that circumstances like these can create uncertainty and concern. We want to assure everyone that the City Council has proceeded thoughtfully, responsibly, ethically and fairly. Due to confidential considerations, we have partnered with our external legal counsel to carefully protect the city, its employees and everyone involved in a timely manner. We remain committed to making decisions with the best interests of the city, its employees and the community in mind. Two Rivers City Council has accepted Mr. Kordell’s resignation. Police Chief Ben Meinert will continue serving as acting city manager while we seek an interim city manager. We intend to make an interim appointment as soon as possible and then begin the process of permanently filling the city manager position for the next five months. The chief was appointed as acting city manager by the previous city managers and approved by the Two Rivers City Council. The chief is a certified public manager through UW–Madison and the Wisconsin Training and Standards Board. The City Council has confidence in the chief, and he has been in direct communication with the Council President, City Attorney, the City Clerk, and department heads when needed. Thank you for your patience as we navigate this sensitive situation. Any further updates regarding the city manager will be released through the Two Rivers City Council.
Criminal charges against Kordell have not officially been filed.
