GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A fire station on Green Bay’s west side is closed after heavy rains flooded the building on Wednesday night.
City officials say the basement of Fire Station 3, 885 Shawano Ave., filled with floodwater and portions of the first floor were also damaged.
As a precaution, electrical service was disconnected and the station’s personnel and apparatus were assigned to other stations.
Meanwhile, remediation and restoration efforts continue. Contractors have been working to remove water from the building and are using drying and dehumidification equipment. The full extent of the damage is still being evaluated and the city has not determined a timeline for reopening the station.
“During this temporary closure, emergency response coverage will continue without interruption. Our dedicated team remains committed to serving the community effectively,” interim co-fire chief Eric Jeltema said in a news release. “This closure is temporary, and the department anticipates reopening the station once restoration is complete and the facility is safe for occupancy. The department will provide updates as the project progresses.”
