GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A number of fish died after tank equipment caught fire at a Green Bay pet store.
Around 6:40 a.m., firefighters were called to the Petsmart store at 2280 E. Mason Street for reports of gray smoke and electrical odor coming from the building.
When crews first arrived, they saw light to moderate smoke throughout the building. Fire alarms and fire protection sprinkler systems were activated on arrival.
It was quickly determined the origin of fire was within the fish tank equipment.
After extinguishment, many pets were removed from the store and taken to other Petsmart locations throughout the Fox Valley.
Green Bay Fire says a small number of fish did not survive but many more fish and small pets were saved thanks to the working fire protection sprinkler system and quick response.
No large animals were present at the time of the fire.
The fire caused about $100,000 worth of damage.
