STURGEON BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – A Door County Board committee did not take any action Tuesday on a recent vote of non-confidence in Sheriff Tammy Sternard by the deputies’ union.
The Door County Deputy Sheriff’s Association filed a letter with the county after its recent vote. The sheriff responded, calling the allegations “baseless.”
The item was before the County Board’s Administrative Committee Tuesday morning as an informational item.
Corporation Counsel Sean Donohue said county staff has met with the union, and plans to meet with the Sheriff, in an effort to mediate the dispute.
“Issues that we have the ability to address, we want to address. We want a sheriff’s office that employees are happy to work at, that is safe, that administration can direct. We are not sweeping this under the rug. This is of utmost importance to us that this is addressed, that these concerns do get corrected,” Donohue said.
Donohue noted that some items may fall under the sheriff’s authority, not the county’s.
Neither the sheriff nor a union rep spoke at the meeting.
