APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Attempted homicide charges were filed Monday in connection with shots fired during a Grand Chute drug deal.
Dequan Pearson, 17, faces 11 charges, including two counts of attempted first-degree intentional homicide. Jayshawn Jones, 18, faces on count of attempted armed robbery. The criminal complaint also mentions a 13-year-old who allegedly fired three shots, but charges in adult court have not been filed.
In Wisconsin those ages 10 and older facing homicide or attempted homicide counts are charged in adult court.
According to the criminal complaint, Pearson met two people for a drug deal: the 13-year-old and Jones. The 13-year-old shot him in a robbery attempt. Pearson then followed the two, as they were running towards an apartment building, and that’s when Pearson told police he opened fire.
The 13-year-old told police, however, that Pearson was the one initiating the robbery, and Pearson pulled a gun first and fired.
Jones is charged for his alleged role in the armed robbery of Pearson.
Pearson’s bond was set at $500,000 cash Monday. He returns to court Sept. 10 for a status conference, as he does not yet have an attorney.
