MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The city of Manitowoc will conduct a special storm debris pickup after Sunday’s storm.
The one-time storm-related pickup is set for next week, following Memorial Day.
The city says this is for debris resulting from the May 17 storm and is not a regular brush or bulk pickup.
Residents should only place storm generated debris at the curb. The storm’s impact was heavily concentrated on the north side of the city, where the vast majority of damage occurred and where many residents experienced power outages. For this reason, pickup efforts will be focused primarily north of the Manitowoc River.
If you live south of the river and sustained actual storm damage, contact the Department of Public Works (DPW) at (920) 686-6550 so staff can evaluate your situation.
Important requirements
- Please place all storm debris at the curb before collection begins next week
- Crews will make only one pass through affected areas. If debris is not out when crews go through, it will not be collected later.
- Material only (such as brush and limbs) must not to exceed five (5) feet in length or six (6) inches in diameter
- Only storm related material will be accepted. The city must limit collection strictly to storm debris—during the last comparable storm, the city was charged by the county per load brought to the compost site, making it essential that this collection not be misused for non-storm cleanup.
