(WTAQ-WLUK) — Canvas is working again for most users, the company said Friday morning after it suffered a major cyberattack that halted operations this week.
Canvas, which is a learning management system used by universities and K-12 school districts worldwide, says the hack may have compromised millions of users’ personal information, including names, email addresses, student ID numbers and messages.
The group behind the attack, Shiny Hunters, claims 9,000 schools were impacted, including some in Northeast Wisconsin, and is threatening to release additional data if the ransom is not paid by May 12.
Infrastructure, the company behind Canvas, says it continues to investigate.
