PC: Minocqua Brewing Company
(WTAQ-WLUK) — The FBI says it is aware of a Wisconsin brewery’s social media post about the recent assassination attempt on President Donald Trump.
The Minocqua Brewing Company posted on social media that “we almost got #freebeerday” after gunfire erupted at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday night.
The brewery is owned by former state Assembly Democratic candidate Kirk Bangstad, who is known for opposing the president. In 2023, he filed a complaint to ban Trump from being on Wisconsin’s 2024 primary ballot.
The FBI in Milwaukee shared the following statement:
The FBI is aware of these posts. Hateful rhetoric and speech are despicable. Threats of violence or terrorism will be investigated by the FBI, and the public is encouraged to report any threats of violence in detail to the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or online at tips.fbi.gov. As always, we encourage members of the public to remain vigilant and report anything they consider suspicious to law enforcement immediately, call their local FBI office, or submit information to tips.fbi.gov.
The FBI did not confirm an open investigation into this particular incident.
The comment appeared to reference the brewery’s long-running promotion promising free beer on the day Trump dies — a pledge that has drawn criticism in the past.
The post also included a link to minocquamarketplace.com, which sells merchandise, including T-shirts that read, “I wish it was free beer day at Minocqua Brewing Company” and “Is he dead yet?”
It appears the Minocqua Brewing Company’s Facebook page was taken down.
Saturday’s dinner marked the third time in less than two years that President Trump faced a direct threat to his life. One came during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on July 13, 2024, and again two months later at one of the president’s golf courses in Florida.
