In a classic showdown at the 2026 Milan Cortina Games, the U.S. Women’s hockey team reclaimed Olympic gold with a 2-1 overtime victory against Canada. Megan Keller secured the win 4:07 into the extra frame, driving to the net and backhanding a shot past Canadian goaltender Ann-Renée Desbiens to end the game.
The Americans were trailing 1-0 late in the third period after Canada’s Kristin O’Neill scored a short-handed goal early in the second. With just over two minutes left in regulation and the goalie pulled for an extra attacker, captain Hilary Knight tipped in a shot from Laila Edwards to tie the game. The goal was a milestone for Knight, marking her 15th career Olympic goal and 33rd point—breaking the all-time U.S. records in both categories during her fifth and final Olympic appearance.
Goaltender Aerin Frankel anchored the defense with 30 saves, helping the U.S. finish the tournament undefeated. This victory marks the third Olympic gold medal for the U.S. women’s program, all of which have been won in finals against Canada.
