(UW ATHLETICS) MANKATO, MINN — No. 7 Wisconsin scored twice in a 39-second span of the first period on its way to a 4-0 shutout over No. 19 Minnesota State on Friday at Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center.
To start off the night, Brent Solomon found the mesh for his first career NCAA goal, which also proved to mark his first career game-winning tally.
It did not take long for the Badgers to find the net again in the first period. Less than a minute later, Oliver Tulk, with help from the European duo of Vasily Zelenov and Bruno Idžan, gave the Badgers a 2-0 lead.
To cap off the second period, Logan Hensler buried the puck in the net for a power-play goal, after receiving a clean pass from Zach Wooten.
Grady Deering scored his second goal of the season, swooping behind the net before slipping the puck past the Mavericks’ goaltender to close out the scoring in the third period.
The Badgers outshot the Mavericks 35-13, to help secure Alexis Cournoyer’s first shutout as a Badger.
