BRILLION, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Wednesday for a new disc golf course in Brillion.
The new course is part of Ariens Nordic Center, which will allow the outdoor recreation center to expand its summer use.
The course is 18 holes and offers a championship-caliber disc golf experience.
“We have a beautiful outdoor facility here, about 95 to 100 acres and you know, there’s a roller ski facility here for training U.S. biathlon and Nordic athletes. But there’s a whole lot more space we can use this facility for. So Disc Golf was a natural fit,” Ariens Co. Chairman & CEO Dan Ariens said.
Ariens said disc golf was an easy decision with the property’s open land.
The idea came about a year ago and cost around $100,000 to complete.
The opening of this course is also expected to help local tourism with a special event in 2028.
“We have the U.S. Women’s National Championship that’s gonna be hosted here at Ariens Nordic Center or the disc center,” Ariens said.
Ariens said the Professional Disc Golf Association partially inspired them to build the course.
“They came, saw the site and said, ‘boy, if you could build a facility that was worthy of a national championship, we will come,'” Ariens said.
The event is expected to bring thousands of spectators and a couple hundred competitors from around the globe.
The tournament director is thrilled to have this championship return to Northeast Wisconsin, after success in Manitowoc in 2025.
“So, it’s a really great celebration of women in the sport, regardless of age and background and it’s a cool opportunity to bring this community together in one place,” Lakeshore Ladies Disc Golf Founding President Lindsey Krause said.
Tourism officials are excited to see another reason for people to visit Calumet County and keep them coming back for more.
“We like to stay around the office that come for a visit but stay for a lifetime. And this is just one of the many ways that we’re trying to see how to get people to come out here and really discover and understand what kind of wonderful place this is to live,” Calumet County Economic Development & Tourism Specialist Rick Sense said.
The course officially opens to the public on Saturday, Aug. 8.
