DODGE COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office filed an amended complaint for its federal defamation lawsuit.
Sheriff Dale Schmidt announced a lawsuit against Sundas Naqvi and other parties in April, alleging she defamed him and the Sheriff’s Office claiming she was held by customs officials in Chicago and held at the Dodge County Jail in Wisconsin.
The amended complaint incorporates more evidence developed since the original filing, according to a news release. Evidence includes surveillance video, phone records, hotel records, and more digital evidence.
The amended complaint also names another defendant and adds a claim for civil conspiracy. The civil conspiracy claim is made on the basis the evidence supports a common scheme to publish and republish false allegations against Schmidt and the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office.
In April, Schmidt said he filed the lawsuit because he could not press charges in Wisconsin related to an alleged romance scam detailed during the spring news conference.
