OUTAGAMIE COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Door-to-door assessments are beginning for Outagamie County residents impacted by Monday’s tornado.
County Executive Tom Nelson says this is the first step in the process of applying for state and/or federal aid.
Nelson says residents should keep records of cleanup costs.
Nelson also encourages residents to be aware of what he calls ‘bad actors’ or contractors who don’t have the best of intentions.
People can call 211 to report their concerns.
“These are contractors coming through, and I want to say as well, we experienced this in Shiocton, that there are not always good actors out there that want to help, with contractors who come in from out of state. So, the go-to is 211. If there’s anything suspicious, if you’re not sure, it doesn’t look legit, call that and report it. So we want to make sure that things are going, proceeding accordingly, that we’re getting you the relief that is necessary, but also to be mindful of those things, ” Nelson said.
Efforts to restore power continue. Nelson says the county is close to 100% restoration, with the initial focus on nursing homes.
Brush collection will be determined by each municipality.
Residents are encouraged to collect and leave debris near the end of their driveway.
