6-Year-Old Finds 1,300-Year-Old Viking Sword on School Field Trip

While exploring outdoors with his class, the young student noticed a strange piece of metal sticking out of the ground, which archaeologists have now confirmed is a beautifully preserved, 1,300-year-old Viking-era sword.

Experts state the weapon likely dates back to the early Viking or pre-Viking (Merovingian) period, making it an incredibly rare and historically significant find. Recognizing they stumbled onto something special, the children and teachers wisely left the weapon undisturbed and immediately called local authorities. Thanks to their quick thinking, the ancient artifact remained perfectly intact and has since been transported to a museum in Oslo, where it will undergo meticulous cleaning, preservation, and study.
