Quintina Brown, the executive director of the Markham Park District in Illinois, is under fire after arranging for a helicopter to land directly in Roesner Park to give her 17-year-old daughter a dramatic prom entrance and photo shoot.
The chopper touched down on public park property right next to residential homes, sending children running from the nearby basketball courts. While Brown claimed she authorized the landing herself. Police body-camera footage showed officers rushing to the scene to confront the pilot, noting that the park district has no authority to clear aircraft landings. The city’s mayor and manager slammed the stunt as a massive safety hazard, pointing out that a neighborhood helicopter landing requires strict coordination with police, fire departments, and crowd control, none of which were present.
Both Brown and the pilot were slapped with citations for disorderly conduct and unauthorized landing on public property. While the city’s legal team weighs further fines and court injunctions, Brown has remained relatively unfazed by the internet backlash, stating she is just glad her daughter got to enjoy an unforgettable prom memory.
