OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Two people from Milwaukee were arrested for allegedly sneaking drugs into the Oshkosh Correctional Institution.
The case began when investigators from the Oshkosh Police Department’s Vice and Narcotics Unit received information about contraband being smuggled into OCI. Prison officials and the VNU team launched a joint investigation.
Shortly after 5:30 p.m. Monday, law enforcement made contact with a 24-year-old Milwaukee woman inside OCI who was trying to visit an inmate. Two small balloons were found concealed on her person. Inside the balloons, investigators discovered what was believed to be synthetic cannabinoids and Suboxone.
She was arrested and is facing a recommended charge of delivering articles to an inmate.
Officials also made contact with a 25-year-old Milwaukee man in the OCI parking lot. He was taken into custody and is facing charges of delivering articles to an inmate (party to a crime) and felony and misdemeanor bail jumping.
“We remain committed to protecting our community and supporting the safety and security of correctional facilities,” the Oshkosh Police Department said in a news release. “Attempts to introduce illegal drugs into a prison endanger both staff and inmates. The Oshkosh Police Department will continue to work closely with our corrections partners and remain vigilant in our efforts to prevent illegal drugs from entering correctional facilities.”
