(WIAC) – University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and UW-Stevens Point have received invitations to the NCAA Division III Softball Championship.
UW-Oshkosh (30-8-1) claimed one of 22 at-large bids into the 64-team field, while UW-Stevens Point (30-13) earned an automatic bid by winning the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament (presented by Culver’s).
UW-Oshkosh will travel to St. Louis, Mo., for regional action and face Illinois College (33-10) in its opening game. The Titans are making their 13th NCAA appearance. Washington University in St. Louis (28-5), the host institution, and Capital University (Ohio) (21-17) will also compete in the regional.
UW-Stevens Point will travel to Winona, Minn., for its regional competition and open against the host institution Saint Mary’s University (36-6). The Pointers are appearing in the NCAA championship for the third straight year and 10th time in program history. Calvin University (Mich.) (30-13) and Bethany Lutheran College (Minn.) (32-9) will also participate in the regional.
The regional round will be held May 14-16. Sixteen sites will host four teams at each regional site. The team advancing from each regional will compete in the super regional round May 21 and 22 hosted by eight institutions. The finals, hosted by the City of Salem and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, will be held May 28-June 3 at Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Virginia. All rounds will use a double-elimination format.
Baseball
INDIANAPOLIS–University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and UW-Whitewater have secured bids into the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship.
UW-La Crosse (32-12) earned one of 23 at-large bids into the 64-team field, while UW-Whitewater (41-4), the defending national champion, claimed an automatic bid after winning the Wisconsin intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament (presented by Culver’s).
UW-La Crosse will travel to Decatur, Ill., and face the host institution Millikin University (35-8). The Eagles are making their 10th NCAA appearance and fourth straight. Baldwin Wallace College (Ohio) (30-9) and Wartburg College (Iowa) (26-15) will also compete in the regional.
UW-Whitewater will host regional action and open against Macalester College (Minn.) (29-15). The Warhawks will make their 27th NCAA appearance. Bethany Lutheran College (Minn.) (31-6) and Luther College (Iowa) (33-11) will also participate in the regional.
Four teams will compete at 16 regional sites May 15-17. Regionals will use a double-elimination format. Winners of the 16 regional tournaments will qualify for eight, best-of-three series at the super regionals May 22-23. The eight super regional winners will then qualify for the pool play double-elimination championship at Classic Auto Group Park in Eastlake, Ohio, May 29-June 4.
