WINNECONNE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — With a handful of shovels of dirt, new life was breathed into Marble Park in Winneconne.
A groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday afternoon marked the start of the first phase of the Marble Park Reimagined Community Project.
Village of Winneconne Administrator Logan Fuller says the goal is to encourage people to get outside and enjoy nature.
Our community has a lot of awesome character to it but it more importantly has a ton of demand with folks wanting to spend their time here… This is just great corner piece to it.
The project, which began in 2024, is being spearheaded by the Winneconne Area Community Foundation. The organization has raised 99% of its fundraising goal for phase one through private donations.
The 7th grade leadership class at Winneconne Middle School collected donations for the project. At Wednesday’s groundbreaking, several students presented a check for $335.33. The money will be used to install a bench and commemorative plaque to recognize the class.
Major donors to the project include Switchgear Power Systems, the Donald Hansen Fund, the Oshkosh Area Community Foundation and the Village of Winneconne.
The first phase includes new playground equipment, basketball and pickleball courts, a shaded seating area and a brand-new beach house and pavilion. The beach house and pavilion are being donated by Miron Construction.
The goal is to have the first phase of the park complete by this fall, with a ribbon cutting celebration planned for summer 2027.
