APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Tri-County Dental’s mobile clinic features three full operatories to treat its patients. The group travels around the area to provide care to those who may otherwise not have access.
“You can do anything in this mobile clinic that you can do inside our fixed site clinic,” said CEO and Executive Director Sandy Drexler. “It is beautiful, it’s designed to be really friendly, attention getting, and a space that will put kids at ease.”
Tri-County Dental specializes in providing dental care to those on Medicaid or without insurance. The mobile clinic currently goes to 39 different elementary schools in 5 different districts in the area.
Josh, a dental assistant with Tri-County Dental, said it’s a game changer for kids.
“We get to have fun with them. It’s more their environment than the clinic,” he said. “The clinic is very different. They love the environment here, we love working it the children because it just makes the day go by so fast.”
In 2024, the previous bus was totaled in a crash. The crash reduced the clinic’s reach to those in need of dental care.
A grant from the J.J. Keller Foundation helped get the clinic a new bus to get the clinic back on the road.
“It is so great to have it, the team is really happy because the quality of the care that they can give is better,” Drexler said.
Now that the new clinic is up and running, Tri County Dental is going full steam ahead.
“We’ve got a schedule now, we are booked,” board member Kevin Head said. “We’re booking this thing out quite a bit and we’re trying to do each school twice a year in the spring and the fall. And we can re-see the children twice a year, see more children etcetera.”
Tri-County Dental plans to expand its operation to middle and high schools in the future.
