GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A resolution from Green Bay city leaders on how Brown County should proceed with the Neville Public Museum is being put on pause.
It comes as officials are discussing potentially moving the Green Bay Children’s Museum into the Neville.
Discussion on the resolution lasted about 45 minutes at Tuesday’s city council meeting.
The resolution suggested the county take immediate action to hire a new executive director. It also recommended the county be transparent and inclusive with any major changes made at the museum.
Brown County supervisor Pat Evans has said the resolution upset some county board members who thought city council members were trying to tell them what they should do.
He says there has been collaboration between the two sides in recent days.
The council unanimously voted to table the resolution to allow for more discussion between elected representatives from the city and county.
“All of this has been done in the spirit of collaboration,” Green Bay mayor Eric Genrich explained. “That’s the spirit under which this resolution was offered to, just to sort of recognize the community asset that we have in the Neville Museum and really just make the point that the city is here to assist wherever possible to make sure that it’s a treasured institute now and into the future.”
“I wanted to make sure that we have the understanding and I explained this to my supervisors who were very upset by this, especially in the outlying areas. I said the Neville Public Museum is in the city of Green Bay okay, it’s in downtown Green Bay. So the city has a vested interest in the success of the Neville Public Museum,” Evans said. “Don’t take it that they’re trying to tell us what to do. I said maybe it came out that way, and that’s how a lot of you feel and felt.”
The museum’s former executive director left Sept. 15.
The job opening was posted in December.
Brown County executive Troy Streckenbach says there have been about 50 applicants.
