The NEW Zoo & Adventure Park in Green Bay is celebrating a major conservation win following the birth of four American Red Wolf pups! The new arrivals were discovered in their den on the morning of Friday, April 24, 2026, marking a critical addition to one of the most endangered species on the planet.
The pups are currently being cared for by their mother, Ajana, and father, Blade. Because red wolves are highly social and sensitive, zoo staff are maintaining a hands-off approach, performing only brief visual checks to allow the family to bond. Once widespread across the southeastern U.S., American Red Wolves were nearly wiped out by the late 1970s, at one point dwindling to just 14 individuals in the world. Today, the NEW Zoo participates in the Red Wolf SAFE program, a collaborative effort to save the species from the brink of extinction!
Red wolf pups typically stay tucked away in the safety of their den for the first few weeks of life. They are expected to become bold enough to start exploring the outdoor habitat when they reach about four weeks of age, likely in late May. Until then, the zoo will be sharing growth updates and photos on their social media pages.
