Kirk Dunn (Manitowoc Co. Jail)
MANITOWOC, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The suspect in a Manitowoc murder was ordered Thursday to stand trial.
Kirk Dunn, 20, is charged with first-degree intentional homicide for the Sept. 23 death of Jaisiah Owens on Dewey Street.
Dunn was ordered to stand trial after testimony at a preliminary hearing Thursday. He returns to court Oct. 15 for his arraignment.
A defense motion to dismiss one of the counts was denied.
According to the criminal complaint, Dunn was dating Brianna Balzan. She had previously been involved with Owens, “but for her it’s just been a friendship.”
Dunn told investigators he only shot Owens in self-defense. He said he was at 2433 Dewey Street when he opened the apartment door and saw a blue laser on a firearm pointed at him. A shot was fired, and he fired back, went back inside and closed the door, Dunn said.
According to the autopsy, Owens was shot three times. One shot entered the left rib, penetrated the lung, and exited his body. The second shot struck the liver and aorta. The third struck a calf.
