1. One of the crew members who died on the Titanic was named Joseph Dawson, and his tombstone says “J. Dawson.” But James Cameron didn’t know about him when he picked “Jack Dawson” as the name for Leonardo DiCaprio’s character in “Titanic”.
Ever since then, Joseph Dawson’s grave in Canada gets a lot more visits and flowers.
2. Half of the gold that’s ever been found on Earth comes from the Witwatersrand Basin in South Africa
3. The tradition of bridesmaids all wearing the same dress goes back to ancient Rome. They’d all dress the same as the bride, to confuse any evil spirits that showed up at the wedding to snatch her away.
4. Illinois has the only U.S. state seal that was designed by a woman. It was designed by Emma Edwards Green in 1891.
