GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Green Bay police are highlighting the dangers of driving intoxicated after a driver suspected of OWI ran over the foot of an officer.
The incident happened on Nov. 19 while an officer was investigating a disturbance in the 700 block of Bodart Street.
A still image from the officer’s body camera shows a pickup truck drive really close to the officer, who was talking with a bystander, and then proceeded to run over the officer’s foot.
The driver of the pickup truck was taken into custody on recommended charges of OWI causing injury, hit and run causing injury and possession of cocaine.
Luckily the officer did not miss any time away from work due to the incident and no one else was injured.
Police say between Jan. 1, 2023 and Nov. 27, 2023, Green Bay police officers arrested 364 people for OWI offenses.
The behavior is illegal, dangerous and will not be tolerated, police say. If you find yourself in a situation where you are too impaired to drive, you should arrange for a safe ride home.
