APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — While national gas prices continue to drop, prices in the Fox Valley are going in the opposite direction.
“When that stuff happens I really gotta start budgeting my money, cooking at home, stuff like that,” Appleton Resident Mason Manske said.
Manske said gas prices have been a big concern of his, so seeing them increase again is discouraging.
“Gas prices have kind of sucked for the past couple months,” Manske said. “But they’re a lot better than they were when it was a ridiculous amount.”
The average cost in Appleton is $2.67 per gallon, up 11.4 cents from last week’s average of $2.56 per gallon. The average in Green Bay is $2.82. If prices don’t continue to rise, Manske isn’t too worried.
“I can’t care about 10 cents but when it was up like $1.50-$2, that hurts my pocketbook a lot,” Manske said.
Some experts however believe these trends will continue. In a statement, GasBuddy head of petroleum Patrick De Haan said, prices across the country need to go down.
We’re still waiting for the national average to fall below $3 per gallon, something that is suddenly a bit less likely given the extreme cold weather, interrupting refining operations in the south, curbing gasoline production…
And some have noticed better prices in different cities.
“I specifically came to Appleton because their gas is cheaper in Appleton than Neenah,” Neenah Resident Ryan McKenna said.
McKenna drove up from Neenah so he could save money. He said in a year where prices have been all over, he would rather look at the big picture.
“This is much better,” McKenna said. “Much easier on the pocketbook. I fill up about three times a week, so I travel quite a bit. So $400-500 a month in gas is quite a bit. It would be great if it was a one in front of there but I doubt we’ll ever see that again.”
