OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The owner of a boat involved in a hit-and-run crash on the Fox River in Oshkosh has been arrested.
Winnebago County sheriff’s officials say they arrested Jason Lindemann, 52, on Tuesday. They are recommending he be charged with 12 counts of second-degree recklessly endangering safety and 11 misdemeanor counts of failure to render aid after a boating accident.
No formal charges have been filed so far.
“This investigation was certainly hindered and needlessly prolonged by the fact the powerboat fled the scene and made no attempts to report their involvement the night of the crash, or in the hours that followed,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
Authorities said the crash happened just before 10 p.m. Saturday between the Oregon Street and Wisconsin Street bridges. Jason Lindemann’s powerboat hit a cruise paddleboat that was carrying 43 people. The paddleboat, operated by On the Loos Cruises, made it to the riverbank to let people off safely. Seven people on the paddleboat were injured.
The powerboat left the scene.
Investigators are still looking for two people who were in the powerboat. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at (920) 236-7316.
