Rehan Staton is a role-model for those who have to work hard and make sacrifices to achieve their dreams.
For 24-year-old Staton – he gives a lot of the credit to the people around him who lifted him up.
Raised in poverty he struggled with school and eventually dropped out to get a job as a garbage collector.
His co-workers, many of who were formally incarcerated, saw his potential and empowered and uplifted him, telling him he was intelligent.
He believed it and eventually got accepted into the University of Maryland and was doing very well academically. During his junior year, his father suffered a stroke and Rehan had to quit school and go back to his old his job to support his family.
But he didn’t give up his dream – to attend Harvard Law School. He worked even harder, waking up at 4am for his sanitation shift every day before heading to class.
He did exceptionally well the rest of the way…but besides the good grades, achieving his goal would obviously come with a hefty price tag. A communications coach who Staton met in college and saw his potential, setup a GoFundMe page for him with a goal of $75,000. It raised over $185,000…and now you can see the moment where he found out he was accepted into Harvard Law School. Pure. Joy.
