MANITOWOC, WI (WSAU) — A small Christian college in Wisconsin will close its doors for good later this year.
Holy Family College in Manitowoc announced on Monday that they will be laying off all staff later this summer and will cease to offer classes by August 13th. School officials cited declining enrollment and complications due to COVID-19.
“After prayerful consideration and discernment, the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity have made the difficult decision to formally close Holy Family College,” said President Dr. Robert Callahan.
The 2020 graduating class will be the school’s last. In addition to the economic hardships brought on by the virus, the school was battling declining enrollment. The last available numbers showed the school had about 500 students and 75 full-time staffers.
The closure will be official on August 29th, 2020, the last day of the college’s summer term. Staff layoffs will begin in June.
Holy Family College opened in 1935 as Silver Lake College.
