The Green Bay Phoenix women earned a second consecutive trip to the Horizon League Softball tournament and the trip won’t even have to leave the GB campus. After dropping game one of the regular season’s final series to Detroit Mercy, the Phoenix swept the Titans in a double header on Saturday winning 8-1 and 6-0 with Brittany Baneck pitching a two hit shutout with 10 strikeouts in her 12th complete game of the year. The sweep landed Green Bay the number five seed in the tournament but they’ll be hosting the Horizon Championship this Wednesday through Saturday at King Park on campus. The Phoenix and IUPUI both finished 12-10 on the year but the Jaguars will get the number four seed by taking the regular season series two games to one. They will open the tournament Wednesday at 12:00 PM. The winner will take on number one seed and regular season champion Oakland on Thursday at noon. Northern Kentucky is seeded third and they’ll face sixth seeded Youngstown State on Wednesday at 2:30 PM with the winner getting number two seed Robert Morris in the double elimination tournament that wraps up with the Championship game Saturday afternoon.
