Recently at an elementary school in Washington, an 8-year-old named Keoni Ching wanted to help his classmates during “Kindness Week” and do something special.
He was inspired by Richard Sherman, now the cornerback for the San Francisco 49ers, who previously played for Ching’s local team the Seahawks – as Sherman once donated money to cover hundreds of students’ lunch debt.
So little Keoni decided to make handmade key chains that he sold for $5 a piece. Why key chains? Because, he said, “I love key chains. They look good on my backpack.”
Once his story went viral, Keoni got key chain requests from all over the country, so with the help of his family, he sold more than 300 of them!
In all, he collected $4015 for his hard work – and it all went to paying off school debt not only at his school, but other schools in the district!
