MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Former Outagamie County Human Resources Director Adam Westbrook wants to withdraw his guilty plea to a federal count of producing child pornography, court records show.
Westbrook was convicted in September, 2024, for actions at a Sauk County hotel. Investigators discovered evidence he took and shared videos of a pre-pubescent boy earlier that year. Sentencing had been scheduled for Dec. 3.
However, in a recent court filing, Westbrook’s new attorney asks to withdraw the plea.
“Westbrook raises each of these three grounds for withdrawal. First, he argues that (Attorney Nathan) Otis provided ineffective assistance by failing to obtain key discovery and fulfill Westbrook’s request to review it before making the decision to plead guilty. Second, Westbrook argues that his plea was not knowing because the factual basis for his plea did not clearly establish that he intended the images to be lascivious exhibition. Finally, he maintains his innocence and that he admitted his guilt based on a misunderstanding of the legal standards,” wrote attorney Alexander Vlisides.
Prosecutors have a Nov. 17 deadline to reply to the motion.
No hearings have been set.
Westbrook resigned from his county position after his arrest.
Westbrook allegedly sent videos to Preston Kite, of Racine. Kite was sentenced to 65 years in prison for various child pornography-related counts.
