MENASHA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — There’s new information about the fugitive ranked on the FBI Chicago division’s “Top 10 Fugitives” list who was arrested in Menasha last week Wednesday.
Multiple sources say the man is 23-year-old Calvin Hutchinson. He was charged over the summer with first-degree murder in Riverdale, Ill., a village in Cook County that neighbors Chicago.
The FBI Chicago Violent Crime Fugitive Task Force alerted the Menasha Police Department that Hutchinson may be in the Menasha area and of his criminal status.
Officials say Hutchinson was in Menasha for less than a week. He was staying with a friend at the time of his arrest in the 800 block of Plank Road.
“The patrol officers identified him, confirmed his identity and they observed him outside the area he was in,” said Matt Roe with the Menasha Police Department. “They were able to quickly approach him, formulate a plan to bring him into custody.”
I can’t commend our patrol officers enough for their diligence in the investigation and how smoothly they handled this individual, taking this individual into arrest with no one getting hurt.
According to police, Hutchinson stayed with various friends and family members in different areas for about one week at a time before landing in Menasha. While there, he committed no crimes and the friend he stayed with was not involved in any criminal activity, per police.
Roe says this is a higher profile arrest than the Fox Valley is used to.
“Someone with this kind of notoriety out of a major metropolitan area, I would say it’s kind of a rare incident,” said Roe. “People are caught in the Fox Valley where people have extraditable warrants out of Chicago or Milwaukee or Minneapolis.”
Hutchinson was sent back to Illinois Thursday, agreeing to be transferred without contest. His case will now be handled by the state of Illinois.
