GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Green Bay residents can get a hold of a free kit to help keep the mosquito bites away.
The Green Bay Conservation Corps is offering free kits for residents to make their own Mosquito Bucket.
Mosquitoes lay eggs in the standing water in the bucket. The bucket contains an added natural soil bacterium called Bti, which kills the larvae before they grow up. This method, sometimes called a “bucket of doom” or “mosquito tea,” creates an irresistible breeding site and then shuts it down—without harming pollinators, pets, or people.
Each kit includes informational instructions, 5-gallon bucket, wire lid, plant material, and Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis (Bti).
A limited number of kits will be available starting Monday, Aug. 11. Residents who are interested in a free kit can pick it up at the welcome desk of the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary Nature Center (1660 East Shore Drive, Green Bay, WI) during normal business hours.
