GREENVILLE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A new study puts Appleton International Airport’s economic impact at nearly $2 billion.
Outagamie County commissioned the study to commemorate the airport’s 60th anniversary.
The study credited the county-owned airport with supporting 7,626 jobs in 2024. That included airport operations, roles with tenant companies at the airport, jobs supported by visitor spending, and supported sectors such as supply chain effects. It also attributed $1.3 billion of direct sales to the airport, including spending from airport operations and by airport visitors.
The airport and related businesses generated $325.4 million, including $205.1 million in state and local taxes.
Compared to the last study done in 2015, airport traffic increased from 512,000 to more than 1 million passengers. Average daily departures rose from 13 to nearly 21. The airport has also increased employment from 1,314 to 3,274. The total economic impact in 2015 was estimated at $676 million.
“Our continued success is due to innovative leadership on the governmental level and the dedication of our team members to service,” airport director Abe Weber said in a news release. “Our promise to our customers is to make air travel faster, easier, and more convenient and our promise to the community is to continue to provide economic opportunities and continued growth.”
Earlier this year, the airport completed construction on a $66 million expansion of its concourse. The airport is currently renovating the existing concourse and front drive lanes.
