(WTAQ-WLUK) — A former Wisconsin governor is setting the record straight on a potential run for office in 2026.
Scott Walker clarified he will not seek a third term as Wisconsin governor in a Sunday social media post.
Walker said the Republicans need to do better with younger voters. That’s why his current work with a nonprofit conservative youth organization is important for the Republican Party.
And while he ruled out a 2026 run, he left the door open by adding that doesn’t mean he will never run again.
After current governor Tony Evers announced he would not bee seeking re-election after serving two terms Thursday, Walker made a series of social media posts that had some questioning if he was considering another run.
Walker shared a photo of a signature MAGA-style red hat that reads “MAKE WISCONSIN GREAT AGAIN” across the front and he also posted a photo of himself back when he was in office, writing, “It was my honor to serve as the 45th Governor of Wisconsin!”
Walker served as Wisconsin’s 45th governor from 2011 to 2019. Evers defeated then-incumbent Gov. Walker in the November 2018 election.
So far, two Republicans have entered Wisconsin’s gubernatorial race: Washington County Executive Josh Schoemann and suburban Milwaukee businessman Bill Berrien.
Last week, Wisconsin Democratic Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez officially threw her hat into the race. A second Democrat, Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, said in a statement that in the weeks ahead he “will be taking steps toward entering the race.”
