MADISON, WI (Wisconsin Radio Network-WSAU) – The Dane County District Attorney has filed felony battery charges against two women accused in the beat down of a state senator last month near the state capitol.
Madison Police say Kerida O’Reilly, 33, and Samantha Hamer, 26, led a mob in the June 23rd assault on state Senator Tim Carpenter. The liberal Milwaukee Democrat captured the start of that with his cell phone before he was punched and kicked to the ground. Carpenter suffered a concussion and a broken nose. He said the women charged him because he was taking a picture of the mob.
The women were released on signature bonds and are banned from the state Capitol square area. They have also been told to have no contact with Carpenter, his family, or his staff. They will be back in court for a preliminary hearing on August 6.
Hamer has also been placed on leave from her job as a social worker in the Mount Horeb school district.
