The town of London, Ontario, is refusing to let any form or racism define it as a community.
Jamaican immigrants Mo and Caroline Ellis settled in the Canadian city along with their daughter and joined a local “Dad Club” that promotes healthy community values and is there to support one another. Mo mentioned to one of the members that he had been the target of racial slurs at his second job…but just mentioned “that’s the way it is” and tried not to let it bother him.
Jeremy McCall, the Dad’s Club President, refused to let the incidents define their community. So he rallied not only members of the Dad Club, but also the local police union, 70 families from around the town and numerous businesses to surprise Mo and his family.
In a parking lot, social distanced gathering, the immigrant family was given a HUGE surprise. First, their daughter was presented with a HUGE lego set and Mo was given a prepaid Mastercard to help with expenses. The disbelief and extreme gratitude set in when the couple unfolded a check for Mo’s wife Caroline to cover her tuition. Tears of joy were seen all around as the town made a big statement against racism and for inclusiveness!
