Archaeologists may have uncovered Cleopatra’s true face! Dr. Kathleen Martinez and her team discovered a white marble statue of a woman wearing a royal crown at the Taposiris Magna Temple near Alexandria. Martinez believes it could depict Cleopatra VII, though some experts think it might represent another Ptolemaic princess. Alongside the statue, they found 337 coins featuring Cleopatra, ritual pottery, and a scarab amulet inscribed with “The justice of Ra has arisen.” Cleopatra was the last queen of Egypt, having been crowned at just 18, and is one of history’s most famous female rulers. She is assumed to have been buried with lover Mark Antony after their deaths.
Could we be one step closer to finding this queen?
