MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — New confirmed coronavirus cases in Wisconsin on Wednesday came in below Tuesday’s record numbers.
The state Department of Health Services reported 821 new cases on Wednesday, 5.9% of the 13,925 total tests done.
One new death was reported, bringing the overall total to 827.
Since the pandemic began, Wisconsin has recorded 38,727 positive tests and 686,299 negative tests.
DHS considers 29,923 to have recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus.
Hospitalizations ticked up slightly on Wednesday. The Wisconsin Hospitals Association says it had 295 patients with positive coronavirus tests, two more than on Tuesday and 21 more than a week earlier. The number of patients receiving intensive care was up to 88, five more than on Tuesday and 14 more than a week earlier. Another 177 patients were waiting for their test results.
In the Northeast region, which includes Green Bay and the Lakeshore, the number of COVID-19 patients increased by six to 36. The number in ICUs jumped by four to 18, a number which is triple what it was six days ago.
In the Fox Valley region, numbers held steady with 10 COVID-19 patients and three in intensive care.
Overall, Wisconsin hospitals said they had 1,266 ventilators, with 288 in use — 13 fewer than on Tuesday.
Of the 11,392 total hospital beds, 2,365 were available as of Wednesday morning.
