Hereโs a story thatโll give you all the feels. Just outside St. Louis sits The Gentle Barn, a sanctuary founded by Ellie Laks, a St. Louis native who always dreamed of rescuing animals. This 27-acre haven is a place where animals whoโve been physically and mentally broken come to heal.
Seven years ago, the St. Louis Sixโsix brave steersโmade headlines when they escaped a slaughterhouse and ran through city streets. Their escape caught Laksโ attention, and she knew she had to help. Today, these cows live at The Gentle Barn, where theyโve become the stars of โcow hug therapyโโyep, they offer hugs to visitors as a way of giving back the love theyโve learned to trust again.
โTheyโve been through so much but have found a way to forgive, and now they just want to help others,โ Laks says.
